Fortive Corporation Senior Manager, Global Tax Controversy in Everett, Washington

Fortive Corporation (“Fortive”) has launched a search for a new role – Senior Manager, Global Tax Controversy. This position will report to the Senior Tax Counsel, M&A, & Global Tax Controversy. The incoming individual will lead the planning and processes around audit management for our IRS and global tax audits. This position will work closely with the Tax Operations and Global Planning teams as well as other corporate functional groups and operating company finance organizations to drive global audit preparedness and risk mitigation.

Although responsibilities and expectations are highly technical in nature, a successful candidate will also have a well-developed business sense and the interest and ability to drive strategic value under the Fortive Shared Purpose and Values. A successful candidate will be adaptable and effective working in a continuous improvement culture driven by the Fortive Business System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the global footprint and establish relationships with the corporate tax team and operating company finance teams.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships between Fortive and the Internal Revenue Service based upon responsiveness and transparency, ensuring requests are fully understood and responses are timely.

  • Develop and implement U.S federal audit readiness plans based upon an understanding of the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, IRS guidance and case history of both U.S. Tax Court and Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

  • Develop and maintain centralized governance, strategy, standard methodologies, and frameworks for global tax controversy.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain records of all U.S. and non-U.S. tax audits and inquiries.

  • Communicate audit plans, strategies and results to internal groups and senior leadership.

  • Conduct research and / or coordinate with external advisors and/or subject matter experts within Fortive tax to prepare memoranda on technical issues including an evaluation of the merits of tax positions.

  • Actively participate in global planning from a technical perspective and ensure audit readiness for complex domestic and international business transactions.

  • Monitor, review, and analyze draft tax legislation, tax regulations, court decisions and other guidance to advise management on changes which will impact Fortive.

  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and implement continuous improvement of tax processes under Fortive Business Systems (FBS).

  • Promote and support Fortive’s mission, policies, values, and standards of ethics and conduct.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MST in Taxation or JD (or equivalent certification) with LL.M. in Taxation preferred.

  • 8+ years of tax experience in major law firm, accounting firm, or multinational company with consistent and progressive increase to responsibilities.

  • 3+ years of tax litigation or controversy management preferred, including large-case federal income tax audits, IRS appeals matters, tax litigation support.

  • Good knowledge of U.S. international tax statute, regulations, and case law with applied work experience in controversy or compliance preferred.

  • Ability to effectively use software tools with large volumes of data and CorpTax experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex tax issues, opportunities and risk to non-tax experts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to provide guidance when confronted with the continuing ambiguity caused by the significant gray areas in tax law.

  • Active learner and critical thinker with strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills.

  • Results-oriented, technically-curious, team player with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • The ability to balance a partnering approach with firm stance on ethics and statutory requirements.

  • Experience operating at a strategic level with remote teams and advisors.

  • Readiness for occasional travel, including global travel as required.

  • Large corporate experience background preferred.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Everett, WA: The salary range for this position is $140,300 - $260,590

National: The salary range for this position is $122,000 - $226,600

This position is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.

Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors, including, but not limited to: job-related knowledge; skills; experience; and other eligibility factors such as geographic location. The Total Rewards package includes competitive base pay and an opportunity to enroll in a variety of benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and several programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work.
